A not for profit project you can sink your teeth into…
Kootenay Food : Mobile Kitchen Classroom Were rolling out through our rural farming region of the West Kootenay’s of British Columbia, providing free and sliding scale skill building opportunities for community members of all ages, incomes and interests.
We aim to build a resilient and healthy community by making Good Food available to everyone, in ways that are accessible, affordable, delicious and educational. We know we can build a healthy community and a stronger local food economy by providing access to kitchen equipment and teaching food skills to our community. We will support farm and food business development programming and invest in tomorrow’s entrepreneurs by engaging the youth of today.
Our organization has devoted years to exploring the food specific needs of our residents, eaters and growers alike. We believe that implementing the Kootenay Food Mobile Classroom will be integral to meeting these identified needs, and will further strengthen collaborative ties with community groups and develop our food-based economy along with the health of our regions residents.
The mobile unit houses a diverse range of classroom and kitchen equipment suited to pop-up learning opportunities in any location; from farm fields and parking lots to schools and community centers. Our programming will be expanded to move through Kootenay communities, offering opportunities to strengthen relationships with our fellow food groups, community services, schools and allies abroad.
